Pig Rearing

Pig farming in Britain is mainly made up of 60% indoor farms and 40% outdoor farms. The majority of pork sold through supermarkets is produced from indoor housed pig systems. For pork which is labelled outdoor, there are 3 types of systems, Free Range, Outdoor Reared and Outdoor Bred. All these farms are checked by vets and auditors to ensure they are adhering to a variety of standards set by the schemes to which they belong, one being the Red Tractor Assurance Scheme which is a fully traceable scheme from feed to fork.

The video shows both indoor and outdoor systems plus how pigs are weaned, reared and finished.
