Sausages, bacon, gammon and ham... where would we be without them? They're the cornerstones of some of our best-loved and most memorable dishes – from toad-in-the-hole to the full English. Sausages
To say pork sausages are popular is a bit of an understatement! According to the latest figures, nearly 6,000,000 Brits tuck into a juicy pork sausage every day. Pork sausages are incredibly versatile too, with a myriad of flavours and regional variations - from exotic chilli and coriander to the herby Lincolnshire and the peppery Cumberland ring. Bacon
Bacon is the true hero of the full English breakfast. As well as its starring role at breakfast time, bacon packs massive flavour into literally hundreds of dishes, from salads to soups and quiches to casseroles.
Ham
OK, so ham, cheese and pickle is pretty hard to beat. But it's not just about fantastic sandwiches – ham is also perfect for bringing a lovely meaty punch to lots of recipes, from pea and ham soup to spaghetti carbonara.
Ham can be smoked or unsmoked and some premium hams are cured using additional ingredients to create a truly unique flavour.
Gammon
A thick, tasty gammon steak served with potatoes and green veg is traditional cooking at its best: unfussy and really making the most of quality pork.
As with ham, gammon can be smoked or unsmoked and is sometimes cured using aromatic ingredients such as cloves to create a distinctive taste. Famed for its robust flavour, gammon is tailor-made for hearty, wholesome dishes. So if you've never tried it before, give gammon a go.
