British stand-up star and comic genius, Al Murray’s ‘The Pub Landlord’, will take on the coveted crown of King of the Sizzle as ambassador for this year’s British Sausage Week, now in its incredible 15th year.

As the undisputed King of Sausages for 2012, The Pub Landlord will tour the UK to encourage the British public to Stand Up for British Bangers by enjoying quality sausages during the Week and looking out for quality assurance, such as the Red Tractor logo, when buying sausages.

As part of the celebration, butchers, supermarkets, school cooks and chefs across the country have been busy entering their very best bangers in this year’s ‘Stand-up for British Bangers’ competition. Al will be helping select winners in each region during British Sausage Week, and winning butchers will not only receive the much sought-after Banger Award but also a donation to a local charity of their choice.

The Pub Landlord said, “It’s a huge honour and great privilege to be the King of Sausages for 2012. The British sausage is a true national treasure and I can’t wait to taste the best our country has to offer. I’m calling on everyone in the UK to celebrate British Sausage Week by standing up for British Bangers and tucking into their favourite sausages.”

“I’m sure we’ll hear more than a few sausage jokes along the way but there is a serious side to British Sausage Week. Many pig farmers are currently losing money due the high cost of production and face the prospect of going out of business. By looking for the Red Tractor logo on pack you can support pig farmers and ensure the sausages you eat are from pigs produced to high welfare standards too.”
