Bacon Connoisseurs' Week (19-25 March 2012) Bacon competition launched

01 January 2012 from Love Pork

Entries are being sought for this years competition the ‘Red, White & Bacon’ Awards

Under the theme of ‘Red, White & Bacon’, the week will run from 19-25 March 2012 and celebrate the British love of bacon. Ahead of the event, invitations are being sent to high street butchers, farm shops, manufacturers, retailers and catering suppliers to enter a competition to find the best traditional and innovative bacon cures.

Entries are now being accepted across four categories: Classic Dry Cure, Traditional Wet Cure, Smoked Cure, and the ‘Rasher-nal’ Treasure Award (for bacon that best represents our heritage), with the best overall entry crowned Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week Champion.

Keith Fisher, BPEX butchery and product development manager said: “Bacon Connoisseurs Week demonstrates the rich tradition of bacon curing in Britain, and what better way to recognise those outstanding cures than to give them the highest accolade of being ‘the Best’.

“The awards provide butchers, bacon manufacturers and retailers with a fantastic tool to raise awareness and sales of their own premium bacon varieties, with the overall winners being presented at a prestigious ceremony to mark the start of Bacon Connoisseurs' Week.”

The closing date for the competition is 23rd January 2012 and samples will be judged by a panel of experts including the legendary Ladies in Pigs, leading food experts and a celebrity Bacon Ambassador, who will be revealed at a later date.
